Final step away from (mt)

Today I migrated my blog to a new server - it has been the plan for quite a while, since I bought a new VPS from a european hosting center.

Until now, my sites have run on a Media Temple (dv) server, but one of my most visited sites is danish, wiinyt.dk, and the ping times to servers located in USA just isn't optimal. Instead I found a hosting center in Germany, yourshelter.net, and ping times are now 20-30ms instead of Media Temples 190-200ms.

So if the site loads faster for people in EU than others, this is why.

Virtual dedicated server - part two

After some playing around, I am quite happy with the possibilities the new server gives. As opposed to MediaTemples ping average on 175ms, this is 25ms - it is going to be a huge difference for my danish and european visitors.

The configuration GUI yourshelter.net provides is Parallels Confixx, but I really don't like it, and have decided to get Plesk license instead. Confixx were a little to tight, not giving me the opportunity to name users, databases etc. myself, and it didn't handle multiple domains very well. I just have to have a GUI that I can rely on.

Now it is just time to set things completely up, before I can begin moving data from the other server :)

Virtual dedicated server

I just ordered a virtual dedicated server - actually I already have one at MediaTemple, but since I host many danish websites, and all primary traffic is european, I really needed a server located in Europe.

After searching around I stumbled across yourshelter.net, who seems to have some ideal solutions for my needs. I have just placed an order for a dedicated server with 30GB diskspace, 1TB traffic/month, 1GHz CPU and 768MB RAM. Now I am just looking forward for them to process my order, so I can begin setting things up and playing around with the server.
